Fans of Hank Williams gather each New Years Day at his cemetery in Montgomery to mark the anniversary of his death, followed by a visit to the Hank Williams Museum in downtown Montgomery for food and entertainment.

Mardis Gras, Mobile
Mardis Gras dates back to 1703 when the French colony of Mobile observed North America's first Mardi Gras. The celebration lasts for nearly two weeks and culminates on Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent. For weeks, the streets of downtown Mobile are filled with the sights and sounds of live marching bands, brilliant-colored floats and teeming crowds of parade goers.

Outdoor drama “To Kill A Mockingbird” held in author Harper Lee’s hometown at the courthouse in Monroeville that was the setting for the film’s version of her book.

September 2008

200,000 motorcycle riders participate in the Trail of Tears Remembrance Motorcycle ride across north Alabama and ending in Florence third Saturday in September. It is called the largest organized motorcycle ride in the world. Activities in Florence include native American POW WOW and music.
