Louisiana has one of the most colourful histories of any state in the USA and of many countries. Louisiana is a rare and exotic mix of nations and cultures.

For over 200 years this diverse mix of cultures has collided with the rest of the world to create a sensory overload. Louisiana has kept the best from its history and now offers a holiday experience that is so rich in its colourful way of life that the memory will remain with you for years to come.

From our world-class music to our spirited fairs and festivals Louisiana has something for everyone. Our fabulous cuisine is an exquisite fusion of tastes from a diverse list of cultures – French, African, Spanish and Acadian. Louisianans cook from the heart and create with their soul. This is obvious whether you are eating a Po Boy sandwich in a café or a 5-course meal in a world renowned restaurant. The very first cocktail was created in New Orleans, which is reflective of the carefree, fun, party attitude. Sample a “Hurricane” cocktail at one of our many 24-hours-a-day bars!

Music is the life blood and heart beat of Louisiana and it can be heard through the cities and towns; in cafés, bars, clubs, restaurants and homes. Louisiana is the birthplace of jazz and home to other distinct musical styles such as Cajun, zydeco and gospel. The legacy of native Louisianans includes world famous entertainers such as Louis Armstrong, Harry Connick Jr., Jerry lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Leadbelly Ledbetter and Wynton Marsalis. Your ears will be pleasantly surprised by the diversity of music on offer within the state.

With more then 600 fairs and festivals our cultural calendar is packed with exciting celebrations and there is sure to be something going on. For those that enjoy the great outdoors Louisiana offers coastal marshes, bayous in the south and rolling hills in the north. We are an ideal destination for activity holidays including fishing, cycling, golf, hiking and kayaking. Take a trip into the swampy mysterious bayous draped with Spanish moss and see if you can spot an alligator or two! Louisiana brings history alive through its extensive collection of majestic antebellum homes dating back to a bygone era, 150 years ago. Many of these magnificent homes are located on the River Road between New Orleans and Natchez, and there are wonderful examples throughout the rest of Louisiana. Each home tells its own story of the families that once lived and worked on these grand old estates.

Louisiana’s own, very colourful city of New Orleans is overflowing with history, culture and an energy that reverberates throughout the city. There is a wealth of experience for all the family in New Orleans - paddle steamers, the Aquarium, Audubon Zoo, the Voodoo Museum, Mardi Gras World, air boat swamp tours, street car rides, Bourbon Street night life and the National World War II Museum for starters.

Beyond New Orleans dance the two-step in Lafayette, the heart of French Louisiana. Visit Louisiana’s Art Deco State Capitol in Baton Rouge and explore some of the fabulous historical plantation homes nearby or visit the seventeenth century town of Natchitoches where Steel Magnolias was filmed.
