Dining in Alabama

Dining in Alabama

In Alabama, we love our food and our visitors! Come to Alabama and enjoy the best in Southern Hospitality.

Eat true German food in North Alabama at the Ol’ Heidelberg Restaurant in Huntsville, the town where German Rocket Scientist teamed with Americans to develop the Saturn V Rocket that put man on the moon.

As well as being home to the fascinating US Space and Rocket Center,  Huntsville also allows you to take a romantic gondola ride at Bridge Street Town Centre where a number of retail stores and restaurants are located. Why not also visit Huntsville’s downtown dining and entertainment area called Washington Square.

In nearby Florence, which is located in the Shoals region in the North West of the state, The 360 Restaurant slowly rotates giving diners a great view of the Tennessee River with their gourmet meal.

A shining example of the world-class status of Southern cuisine can be found in Birmingham, Alabama’s largest city, at legendary Chef Frank Stitt’s Highlands Bar and Grill.  This was recently named the fifth best restaurant in the nation by Gourmet magazine. There is also the Hot and Hot Fish Club which was recently voted one of America's 100 best wine restaurants 2013 by Wine Enthusiast magazine. These are just two of the many downtown top rated Birmingham restaurants.

In nearby Tuscaloosa, the original Dreamland Restaurant is located with its menu of ribs and white bread. Dreamland is one of the 500 Bar-B-Q restaurants in Alabama. There is also a Dreamland Bar-B-Que Restaurant in Birmingham, Alabama that celebrated it's 20th anniversary in 2013 with a block party including live music, a kids zone and a rib-eating contest!

In Homewood, Alabama, this Birmingham-area restaurant-bar, The Little Donkey, brings a Southern spin to Mexican food and drinks with smoked meats and house-made masa, and the fish tacos are very popular. This restaurant/bar is very fun and the place is always jam-packed. The Tequila Mockingbird, made with pineapple, cardamom, agave nectar, lime juice and a touch of serrano pepper is a must-try!

In Alabama’s Capital city, Montgomery , the Brew Pub is located across from the Riverfront Baseball Stadium. Located in a historic 1913 building, the Brew Pub restaurant serves their original local beer right on premise.  Other downtown restaurants include Lek’s, located in historic Union Train Station, with an authentic Thai menu and The Olive Room, an ultrachic restaurant and martini bar on the style of midtown Manhattan. Montgomery also boasts a new entertainment and dining district called The Alley, home to a new Dreamland Restaurant (Bar-B-Q) amongst others .

All along Alabama’s southern coast fresh seafood and celebrations abound. In Alabama’s port city of Mobile visitors get a taste of the coast with delicious seafood at Wintzell’s Oyster House, Felix’s Fish Camp and other great restaurants.

Jimmy Buffett’s sister, Lucy, owns and operates Lu Lu’s in Gulf Shores. This restaurant on the coastal waterway offers live music and a “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

Bayou La Batre, the small coastal fishing village made famous by the movie Forrest Gump and the fictionalized Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., hosts the annual Blessing of the Fleet each May and Gulf Shores, with its 32 miles of soft white beaches on the Gulf of Mexico hosts the National Shrimp Festival in October.
