Alabama Regions & Cities

Explore Alabama's regions of diverse culture...

North Alabama

Amazing views with a soundtrack to go along. The southern Appalachians stretch across this portion of the state. It’s where some of music’s biggest stars were born and where others were made after they recorded their hits in the local studios at The Shoals. Here, you can gaze up at the cosmos from scenic vistas or go learn from those who’ve actually been there themselves at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville.

Central Alabama

Right in the middle of it all. Let’s start with Birmingham, it’s the state’s largest city and has everything that comes along with it. Nightlife, shopping, dining...there’s something for everyone here, and it’s a great hub for visiting other parts of the state. The central region of Alabama is also home to the Tide in Tuscaloosa and the Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR’s longest track. This beautiful portion of the state is well-known to fans of the Auburn Tigers, but it’s also a must-stop destination for those who love literature and history.

South Alabama

Take a scenic stroll through history. Visit the area that inspired Harper Lee as she wrote To Kill a Mockingbird and stop by the Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum in Montgomery. Learn more about the Civil Rights Movement and how it changed the world.

Beaches & Gulf Coast Alabama

If you like beaches, you might as well go to the best. Sugar-white sand; warm, turquoise water and the freshest seafood imaginable. Alabama's Gulf Coast has everything you want in a beach experience. But there’s more to do here than just squish the soft sand between your toes (which you really need to try)...beautiful Mobile sits on the bay with its incredible architecture and deep history, and golf is everywhere down here, including some of the most scenic and challenging courses in the country.
