For over 150 years, Avery Island,  located just a few miles inland from Louisiana’s Gulf Coastline has been the home to culinary staple; TABASCO® and its infamous sauce. The island is also home to the McIlhenny family’s 160-acres wildlife sanctuary known as Jungle Gardens. New private, guided botanical and historical tours are now being offered with Garrie Landry, a botanist and former professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In addition to the garden tours, TABASCO® also offers factory tours as well as private birding tours. The organisation has also launched a new self-guided audio tour through the Travel Story app.

A new on-site visitor experience has been unveiled at Poverty Point UNESCO World Heritage Site in Pioneer, Louisiana (located one hour east of Monroe). A virtual reality mobile app now gives visitors the opportunity to see the site as it appeared 3,400 years ago. Louisiana State Parks partnered with TimeLooper, Inc., an interpretive experience technology firm, to create the mobile application Explore Louisiana State Parks. The mobile app provides an interactive on-site visitor experience at Poverty Point World Heritage Site through augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology.

“With this app, visitors can stand on Mound A, the tallest of the five mounds, and visualize how Poverty Point may have looked more than 3,400 years ago using a mobile device,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “It’s incredible technology that brings the site to life allowing all visitors, including people with disabilities, to experience the site in an entirely new way.”
