Alabama's best kept secret is its beaches…
The gorgeous white sandy beaches of the Gulf Shores, Alabama’s beautiful beaches, were recently featured in “Touring America’s best little beach towns”. You can taste fantastic fresh-off-the-boat gulf seafood and of course sandy feet are welcome! If you are along the Gulf Coast in October a visit to the Annual National Shrimp Festival is a must!
The 17th best beach bar in the world (yes… the world!) is the Flora-Bama Lounge on the Alabama / Florida stateline, as voted by CNN in their listing of the Worlds 50 Best Beach Bars. It has everything a beach bar needs with live music and cold cheap beer, plus a good mix of locals and out-of-towners. The survey lists the Annual Mullet Toss Festival & Gulf Coasts Greatest Beach Party, which takes place every April, as the main reason for making the Flora-Bama Lounge legendary.
At the end of May Alabama Gulf Coast marked the map as a new scuba diving destination. An old ship, named The Lulu, that would have ended as scrap metal now has a new lease of life on the bottom of the Gulf. Divers have been flocking to the ship, with the new diving reef receiving great reviews. “The second you see the wreck it’s breathtaking, it has an ambience that’s majestic” said diver Mitch Craft. “There are lots of snapper, grouper and similar larger fish, and we recently saw a big loggerhead sea turtle”. The wreck is shallow enough for beginner divers, but also great fun for advanced divers with all the different levels to explore.
