One of the best places to enjoy a sunset has to be Dauphin Island after being named the Sunset Capital of Alabama.

Sunset at Dauphin Island, Alabama

Panoramic sunsets have long been an inspiration to visitors, and the residents, of Alabama's historic island. And now the colourful and unique seascapes are going to be a source of pride shared throughout the state as Dauphin Island has now been named the Sunset Capital of Alabama but the town council and with support from Alabama's Tourism Department.

Billboards along roads and interstates leading to Dauphin Island will advertise the new title, including major highways in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. Dauphin Island, where it's geographically located, is really the westernmost white sand beach in Alabama and also on the Gulf Coast.

If you have a sunset photo along the Gulf Coast or from Dauphin Island we would love to see it, just email alabama@deep-south-usa.com or tell us your favourite things to do along the Gulf Coast in the comments section below...

Thanks Joy for your comment regarding the Sunset Capital of Alabama! We totally agree that it's hard to beat and the beautiful beaches on Alabama's Gulf Coast should not be missed!
