Day Trip Ideas Outside of New Orleans
If you’re planning a trip to New Orleans a lot of people make a list of places to visit just in the city centre, but there are some amazing adventures to have just a short drive away so why not stay a few extra days and include some of these too.
Tour the Plantations of River Road
Just as you leave New Orleans you will start the long 70-mile highway called the River Road, and head in to New Orleans Plantation Country, which is nestled beautifully along the mighty Mississippi River, where you will see Louisiana architecture as its best with the grand plantation homes.
Big Fun on the Bayous
Explore south Louisiana's bayou backcountry located just an hour outside of New Orleans. From high-speed airboat tours to gentle flatboat excursions, with a variety of bayou/swamp tours available. You might see one of the exotic critters such as nutria, bald eagles, wild boars and the king of the swamp - the alligator.
Tasty Trips Near New Orleans
If you head for Louisiana’s Cajun country you can tour McIlhenny Company’s Tabasco factory out on Avery Island and while you’re there charter a fishing boat to catch your own dinner – the captain takes you to where the fish are biting no matter what time of year. Louisiana’s Northshore is also great for fishing adventures on the inland bayous, and after you’ve worked up an appetite try Palmettos on the Bayou for some great seafood and dining outside surrounded by the old Louisiana forests.
New Orleans has a story all of her own to tell and if you go back a hundred times you will discover new things.
