When the humidity starts to lower in Louisiana you can say that autumn – or fall as they say in the States - has officially arrived; the Saints are in the Superdome and the kids are back in school. Which means it’s time for Fall Festivals. Louisiana has some amazing festivals in the entire country. Here are 12 of the best and most unique…

Boudin Wars, Sulphur

Amazing boudin chefs from around the region gather for this event to determine who has the best Boudin (a type of spicy sausage) anywhere. You don't want to miss it!

New Orleans Burlesque Festival

The annual New Orleans homage to this vintage art form showcases talent from around the country as they gather to celebrate and perform their best numbers. You’ll have to leave the kids at home for this one - but it's a ton of fun.

Natchitoches Meat Pie Festival

Another option for those in Northwest Louisiana is the Natchitoches Meat Pie festive, this year was the 14th annual gathering to honour the delicious and classic Louisiana treat. Each year it coincides with the Cane River Run, hosted by the Independent Motorcycle Riders Club of Natchitoches, making for one big party weekend!

Red River Revel Arts Festival, Shreveport

This week long festival takes over Shreveport, attracting nationally recognised bands and stunning visual artists and craftsmen from across the region. It’s one not to be missed.

Zwolle Tamale Festival, Zwolle

This unique festival celebrates its 41st year in 2016 telling the history of the area, a long time crossroads in the colonial period, where Spanish colonists, French colonists and Native American tribes traded and influenced one another.

Louisiana Cotton Festival, Ville Platte

This celebration of what is one of the most important cash crops in the South offers live music, carnival rides and an annual traditional American pageant that always draws crowds.

Festivals Acadiens et Creoles Lafayette

The free Festivals Acadiens et Creoles is a festival where the amazing cajun food is always flowing and there is some truly incredible southern music blasting all weekend.

Louisiana Gumbo Festival, Chackbay

You will fall in love with the delicious gumbo available at this awesome festival--but is there anything more adorable than a good old fashioned dance? This is the real deal Louisiana festival folks.

Washington Parish Free Fair, Franklinton

This family fair began in 1911 and is one of the largest free fairs in America - and the second oldest in Louisiana. The annual 5k run and rodeo here are definitely highlights.

Blackpot Festival, Lafayette

Visit Lafayette on Halloween weekend to participate in this amazing delight for the senses. Teams come from around the state to participate in the cook-off of all Louisiana favourites, not to mention all the camping, dancing and lots of Halloween fun.

Voodoo Music Experience, New Orleans

A national festival which brings in big headliners like 2016’s Arcade Fire, The Weeknd and Tool, this New Orleans celebration of music is unlike any other in the state.

Giant Omelette Celebration, Abbeville

And finally, (and perhaps most unique,) this now annual Abbeville festival sets off to create the largest omelette possible each and every year – only in America! It is definitely a sight you want to see….and taste!
