Scheduled to open in Downtown Nashville early September 2020, the National Museum of African American Music will encourage visitors to discover the central role African Americans have played in shaping and creating all genres of American music.
From classical to country to jazz and hip hop, NMAAM will integrate history and interactive technology to share the untold story of more than 50 music genres and sub-genres. It will be an unparalleled institution, unconfined by record label, genre or recording artist, and tell a unique narrative through the lens of Black music.
The museum which has been in development for over 20 years will be the anchor tenant at the new Fifth + Broadway development – fifthandb.com which is due to open in 2021. Fifth + Broadway will be the largest mixed-use development in the region and will include retail, residential and office spaces right at the centre of downtown Nashville on historic Broadway.
When the museum opens guests will be immersed in generations of musical history created and inspired by the work of African Americans. NMAAM features seven content galleries, six permanent and one rotating, that chronicle the traditions from the 1600’s to present day. More than 50 genres and sub-genres of American music will be explored from spirituals and gospel, jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B and more.
NMAAM will also have a state-of-the-art performance hall that will screen films, lectures and stage concerts from local and international artists. For more information visit nmaam.org/ or email firstname.lastname@example.org
