The Bluegrass Region is great to visit at any time of the year, but in this blog we want to tell you what the region has planned for the holidays and why visiting at Christmas can be so magical.

Shaker Village, Harrodsburg, Kentucky

Throughout the year the Bluegrass Region offers 200-years of history and a distinct culture, combining the graciousness of the Old South, the time-honoured tradition of distilling bourbon, the folk art and music at the foothills of the mountains, some 450 Thoroughbred and Standardbred farms and the great Keeneland Race Course (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), but there's always something extra special about visiting during the festive season.

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, a half-hour from Lexington in the town of Harrodsburg, is the largest restored Shaker community in the United States and the first site in the country to be designated in its entirety as a National Historic Landmark. In the spirit of the Shakers, the village offers a number of hands-on activities, such as making your own holiday star and try your hand at weaving an intricate star pattern using reed, as well as illuminated evenings full of light-hearted moments that remind us of long-ago winter days filled with wonder and laughter. Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington will once again host Southern Lights (22 Nov – 31 Dec). Celebrating its 27th year at the Kentucky Horse Park, this is a magical holiday tradition for all the family, featuring animated light displays arranged along a drive-at-your-own-pace 4-mile route. Christmas at Mustard Seed Hill, located 45min north of Lexington, is a unique holiday light and decoration attraction featuring magnificent illuminated light displays. The backdrop of this Christmas scene is the newly-renovated Allen House, a grand federal style wedding and special event venue. You can find out more here...
