Russell Fork White-Water Rafting (Elkhorn City)
The Russell Fork River is rated Class IV-Class VI Rapids. The Russell Fork cuts a 1600-ft gorge through the mountains into Elkhorn City. White-water opportunities vary year-round with white-water rafting in October.
Lake Barkley & Kentucky Lake
The Kentucky Lake Barkley area offers a variety of attractions and activities for the whole family to enjoy. With 160,000 surface acres and 2,300 miles of shoreline, Kentucky Lake is large enough to accommodate a variety of water activities. Lake Barkley & Kentucky Lake attractions and activities include fishing, boating, skiing, and wildlife viewing. In addition to water and wildlife, Lake Barkley & Kentucky Lake attractions also include golfing, shopping, dining, antiques, crafts, hiking, biking, camping and attractions and much more.
Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area
As part of America’s great outdoors since 1963, Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area manages over 170,000 acres of forests, wetlands, and open lands on a peninsula between Kentucky and Barkley lakes in Western Kentucky and Tennessee. The family friendly recreation area offers one of the largest blocks of undeveloped forest in the eastern United States. With 300 miles of natural shoreline, lake access provides idyllic settings for camping, picnicking, hiking, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, and water sports. Licensed hunts for deer, turkey, squirrel and other small game animals occur throughout the year. Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area draws visitors from around the world to explore the nooks and crannies and escape into nature. People also enjoy the authentic experiences provided by the Woodlands Nature Station, Elk & Bison Prairie, the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm, Golden Pond Planetarium and our observatory. Dispersed conservation education can be found throughout the recreation area.
Cumberland Falls
Known as the "Niagara of the South," the thundering waters of Cumberland Falls are 65 feet high and 125 feet wide. When the Cumberland River is at flood state the width of the falls can quickly expand to 300 feet. Cumberland Falls is dramatic day or night. But it's only at night during a full moon that you can see the Moonbow, a phenomenon said to only be duplicated at Victoria Falls in Africa. Read more...
