Mississippi claims a jewel in the PGA’s crown of tournaments. One of only 48 events in the top-level pro golf tour comes to Mississippi each year. The Viking Classic, played at the Annandale Golf Cub in Madison, has been an official PGA money event since 1994. The winner’s prize money has exceeded half a million dollars in recent years.
The event begins with pro-am tournaments and practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday, when admission is free to the public.
For one week each year the spotlight shines on Annandale, a private course. But it falls year-round on more than 80 public and resort courses throughout the state. For of the courses are in state parks, which offer great values for visitors.
